Presentation Overview
With a population of 1.2 million and counting, Edmonton has seen unprecedented growth in recent years. And while this recent population boom has outpaced projections, the groundwork to accommodate it was established in 2020 with City Council's adoption of the City Plan -- a long term growth, development and transportation plan to accommodate a population of 2 million people within the current municipal boundaryMore recently, in January 2024 Edmonton's new Zoning Bylaw came into effect, translating the City Plan's long term goals into development regulations that support more business and housing opportunities across the city. While growth brings its challenges, these long term planning choices have uniquely positioned Edmonton to meet the diverse housing needs of a growing population through Canada's ongoing housing crisis.
