On Thursday, November 27, 2025, J.J. Tremblay, Chair of our Community Service Committee, visited St. Alphonsus Catholic Elementary & Junior High School in Edmonton’s inner city to deliver the Club’s donation of $2,500 in support of the school’s 2025–2026 Nutrition Program.
Access to nutritious food is a critical foundation for learning, and this program ensures that students begin each school day with the nourishment they need to focus, participate, and succeed in the classroom.
During the visit, J.J. also presented a Rotary Certificate of Recognition to School Principal Joan Woodlock and Edmonton Catholic Schools representative Cheryl Shinkaruk, acknowledging their dedication to supporting student well-being and fostering a caring school environment. The accompanying photos capture J.J. with Principal Woodlock, as well as a second photo with both Joan and Cheryl following the presentation.
An interesting feature of St. Alphonsus is its year-round school calendar, which balances instructional days across four terms with vacation breaks in between. This innovative structure allows for more consistent learning throughout the year and ensures that student support programs—like nutrition services—remain accessible and effective across all terms.
Our Rotary Club is proud to partner with St. Alphonsus School and Edmonton Catholic Schools as they continue their important work in our community. Thank you to J.J. for representing our Club and to all our members whose generosity makes initiatives like this possible.
